Engine map tuning (so-called chip tuning)
A completely non-invasive process, most often carried out via the OBD2 diagnostic port.
Chip tuning is an electronic optimization of engine parameters that results in increased power and torque. It enhances driving performance, improves responsiveness, and can even contribute to more efficient fuel consumption.
This process utilizes the performance reserves intentionally left by the manufacturer. These reserves are most noticeable in turbocharged engines.
What is CHIP-TUNING?
Every modern vehicle is equipped with an Engine Control Unit (ECU) — a computer responsible for managing engine operation under all conditions.
The ECU controls key parameters such as:
- fuel delivery
- ignition timing
- injection angles
It also communicates with other systems like the gearbox and traction control.
Chip tuning involves modifying these parameters by safely uploading optimized software to the ECU via the diagnostic port (OBD).
In some cases, direct access to the ECU is required (bench tuning), which involves connecting directly to the control unit.
